Buried Child

play by Sam Shepard

Buried Chil is about the desintegration of the American Dream. I was drawn to the photos of abandoned gas stations in the midwest. Places that could have been lively at one point but are now forgotten and no one even takes the time to tear them down.

Gas stations are liminal space. They’re never the destination and people who arrive to them could be headed anywhere. It is also abandoned taunting the family of being somewhere else, but are stuck in one spot. A possibility of a different life that this family is unable to reach.
