play by Sam Shepard

Buried Child deals with the desintegration of the American Dream. I was drawn to the photos of abandoned gas stations in the midwest. Places that could have been lively at one point but could be easily forgotten.

Gas stations can be a liminal space where cars arrive and people in them can be headed anywhere. But if its abandoned it could mean being stuck in one spot while being taunted with a possibility of freedom. A possibility of a different life that this family is unable to reach.
